Green for Life BookIn her latest book Green for Life, Victoria Boutenko emphasizes the importance of adding greens to our diet, in order to stay healthy and happy.

From the Inside Cover:
In search of the perfect human diet, Victoria Boutenko compares th standard American diet with the diet of wild chimpanzees. Chimpanzees share an estimated 99.4% of genes with humans, but their diet is dramatically different from ours. The most glaring difference is that chimpanzees consume significantly more green leaves than humans. Based on these observations, Victoria has developed a series of green smoothie recipes that enable anyone to consume the necessary amount of greens in a palatable way.

Written in a simple, clear voice, this book provides ample proof of the desperate need for each of us to add more greens to our diet, and Victoria provides 23 exceptional green smoothie recipes to make it possible. If you are concerned about your health, or the health of your family, this book is for you.

Save the Internet: Click here
The communications giants are currently lobbying the US Congress to pave the way for tiered internet service. This would allow Internet Service Providers like AT&T, Verizon and BellSouth to charge for, and limit access to Internet content and delivery.

Commercial content providers with deep pockets would be able to pay for high-speed content delivery, while independant businesses, artists, journalists, podcasters, bloggers, activists, fundraisers, etc. (everyone without deep pockets) would be "sent to the back of the bus" and see the delivery of their content and access to affordable online marketing efforts cutoff. The Internet as you know it today, would essentially become nothing more than cable TV. A free and open Internet, is key to promoting and sustaining small business and economic diversity, and supporting the free creation and exchange of new ideas.

Over the next several years, Sustainability by Design will create and coordinate a series of design briefs, research tools, stakeholder design charrettes, educational events, community workshops, exhibitions and publications. Municipal officials, researchers, citizens and local stakeholders will explore consensus-based concepts for how a sustainable region might evolve. These community processes, research initiatives and policy tools will provide a unique opportunity to test key sustainability principles and targets against real site constraints and emerging market conditions, and to see what kind of communities and neighbourhoods might result in BC's Lower Mainland over the next several decades.

Sea SoilA small company on Vancouver Island in British Columbia has developed a new soil which not only recycles fish and wood processing waste, but replicates as closely as possible the nutrients found in the forest floor. By combining forest fines and fish fines leftover from processing, and then aging the new soil for an extended period of time to eliminate any seeds, their new product called Sea Soil is exceptional both as a soil enhancer and ecosystem restoration soil for forest restoration projects. For domestic garden use, Sea Soil can be purchased at local nurseries throughout British Columbia. For larger projects and bulk purchases of Sea Soil contact Sea Soil directly. Designing for Sustainability

Sustainable Design is the new black in the Design World. We often talk about practicing sustainable design, however we often forget to consider what we are in fact sustaining, or attempting to sustain. In a marketing-zealous world, many projects are now labeled 'green' and yet how 'green' are they?

If we design a dwelling which reduces the amount of energy required to run it, yet utilize components shipped from half-way around the globe, are we truly practicing sustainability? If instead we construct a dwelling using traditional building methods and educate the owners of the dwelling to help construct the dwelling themselves, have we not only constructed a dwelling with a smaller energy footprint, and provided knowledge which will aid in sustainability through self-sufficiency?
